Pebble Creek Men's Club Newsletter
September 2010
(Sept 22nd) Hi guys - yep, I am kind of late getting out this month's newsletter but we have had quite a few things going on that I needed to catch up on.  So, let's get right to it.

Men's Club News:  Congratulations to Andy Cleland for defending his Club Champion title and to Greg Mattson for earning his first Senior Club Champion title during our Club Championship!  Full results are listed on the men's club website at www.pcmensclub.com.
Fall League is off to a wet start after two beautiful weeks.  We got dumped on last week to such an extent that very few teams were able to play.  Because of that, I am throwing out last week for free and I will use the best 6 of 7 scores to determine the Fall League champs.  Hopefully, we will not have anymore all day rains.
Today is the last day to sign up for the Tournament of Champions if you are eligible.  Make sure you get signed up or email me by tonight.  The tournament is set for this Saturday and I will be sending out pairings and tee times tomorrow afternoon.
We are going to try a little experiment.  I have created an online sign up form for weekend events on the website where you can go to sign up for TOC or Fall Scramble.  Hopefully, this will make things a little easier on those of you who cannot get out to the club as often or who might just find it more convenient to sign up online.  If this goes over well, I will include it on the website for all of next year's events.  So, let me know your feedback on whether you like the new service or not and any suggestions you might have that make it easier or better.

Current Player of the Year Standings (thru Club Championship):  Things have tightened up considerably and there are still points out there from the Classic and Individual match play tournaments, as well as this weekends Tournament of Champions.  All three are worth double points, so things could get downright interesting:
Tony Graning            23 points
Curt Renslow            21 points
Warren Johnson        20 points
Todd Hanrahan          18 points
Joe Jansky                18 points
Dave Landreville         17 points
Jim Anderson            15 points
Eric Graning              15 points
Greg Mattson             14 points

Past Event Results:

4 Club Tournament - August 28th. This was a great event again this year and quite challenging to only have 4 clubs to choose from on a rather blustery day.  Curt Renslow shot a net 68 (gross 75) to run away with the title this year.  That is some fine shooting with only 4 clubs!  You should play that way more often Curt!!.  Coming in second with a net 71 was Ryan Seavert, third was Rick Torkkola with a net 74 and Eric Graning and Chris Archambeault both shot net 75's to come in 4th and 5th respectively.

Club Championship - Sept 11th-12th.  What another great club championship!  It came down to the last 9 holes to determine the champion as Andy Cleland shot a 1 over 37 to make up a 2 stroke deficit after 36 holes for a 54 hole total of 192.  Coming in second was Mike Cleland with a total of 194.  Also with 194's were Randy Siemers, Dave Landreville, and Chad Mathews.  In the Senior Championship flight, Greg Mattson shot even par gross score of 144 for two days to run away with the title by 14 strokes!  Coming in second with a total of 158 was Warren Johnson, in third place was Denny Steele with a total of 162 and in 4th place was Gary Obele with a 164 total.  In the net flights, the winners were Joe Jansky in the 1st flight with a net two day total of 146.  Leading the 2nd flight was Bill Struzyk with a two day net total of 140 and winning the third flight thru a scorecard playoff was Kevin LaVoi who beat out Jerry Miller after both posted two day net totals of 147.  Great job everyone!

Upcoming Events:

Tournament of Champions - Saturday, September 25th. This is a prestigious invitation only event for those members who won or took second in this year's weekend events, leagues, and year long events.  The format is individual stroke play at gross and net.  The top 3 gross scores (and ties) and the top 4 net scores (and ties) will all qualify for the shootout.  See the handbook for details on the shootout format.

Fall Scramble - Saturday, October 3rd. In our last official event on this year's calendar, the annual 4 man scramble featuring the ABCD tee format.  "A" players will tee off from the black tees, "B" players from the blue tees, "C" players from the white/gold tees, and "D" players from the Ladies red tees.  Teams must have a combined handicap of at least 45 or more to be eligible.  Start rounding up your players now!!

Fall Banquet/Awards Ceremony - Wednesday, October 20th. This is where we will recognize and award prints to the winners of the various leagues and major events from the 2010 golf season.  The dinner is FREE, so there is no reason for you not to attend.  We will also be voting on some updates to the by-laws (a separate letter will be coming out detailing those) and we will be voting on the new Board of Director for 2011.  So, don't miss out!!  Oh...and if no one gets a hole in one in the next few weeks, we will be giving out around $635 in cash drawings!!

See you at the course,
