| Hi guys - the regular season is over and now we are in our last few weeks of golf for the year. Get out while the weather is still nice! It will change soon enough and you will be cooped up in the house wishing for warm weather and green grass.
Men's Club News: This past weekend we completed our Men's Club Championship. What a great finish we had in the Championship flight with it coming down to a 3-hole playoff between Andy Cleland and Dave Hollander, both new members this year! Overall, the club championship went extremely well I thought. We had some problems on Saturday with slower play on the White to Red course due to two tournaments that went out in front of us, but that is beyond our control. In general, pace of play was pretty good both days (though I am sure there were a couple of slow downs). I was out on Saturday cruising around checking and did not see too many problems. Sunday I didn't have time to get out but I heard the pace was fine. We did have one other problem in the Senior Championship flight. The Board of Directors granted a one time exception to a long time member to play early that day due to a conflict he had later in the day. It was not a unanimous decision, many arguments against it were brought up and all were valid, but in the end the Board made the decision to allow him to play early. It ended up being a poor decision on our part. We make no excuses, and obviously, this situation will not happen again, but what's done is done and so let's move on. Despite this one little hiccup, we still had a great club championship! There was fine play in all the flights! We used a different software program to do the scoring and print out the pretty scorecards you used, and we were able to get all the scoring and results tabulated within a few minutes after the tournament ended. So, a big thanks to our volunteers who helped run and organize the tournament. And a big congratulations to all the tournament winners!! Also, a big thanks to Tim Cox, owner of T's Restaurant, for his contribution of gift certificates to the volunteers and to Troy Malo and the Pro Shop staff for all their help a! nd suppo rt in running the tournament. Upcoming, and just a week away is our last big tournament of the year, the Tournament of Champions. This is an invitation only tournament, meaning you have to had won or placed second in the qualifying events played throughout the year to earn an invitation. You can see the complete list of qualifiers on our web site at www.pcmensclub.com. The only people missing from the list are the ones still playing in the Classic and Individual Match play tournaments. The winners and 2nd place finishers in those events will also qualify. So, if you are one of those in contention, remember that. There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board now, even though you qualified, you still need to sign up so we know how many are playing and can make the tee times and pairings. Sign up deadline is next Wednesday, September 23rd!! Next month we will be having our Fall Banquet on Wednesday, October 21st. The banquet is FREE for all Men's Club members. There will be a dinner and awards ceremony where we will be giving out prints of Red #8 (original graciously purchased by Terry Duffy....thanks Terry!). We will also by electing a new Board of Directors. So, for those of you who have been complaining about the poor decisions the board has made or about how something should be done differently, now is the time for you to stand up or shut up! (just kidding) . We will be electing an entirely new board, as board members only serve one year terms, except for President. Your new President will be Mel Doherty (the current Vice-President) and he will be looking for lots of help in the coming year. We will be seeking candidates for Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. So, if you want to step up and help out your fellow men's club members and serve on the board, just let us know.
