Pebble Creek Men's Club Newsletter
September 2008
(Sept 17)  Hi fellow Men's Club Members - wow, I got this newsletter out before the end of the month this time!

Men's Club News: Quite a bit has happened in the past few weeks.  All the regular Wednesday summer leagues have now completed their seasons and results are posted on the website (click on the Event Results link and go to Wednesday Leagues).  Right now I just have the Senior 50+ League results posted.  I have the 18-hole results but not the payout amounts yet and I am still waiting on the 9-Hole final results and the Senior 60+ results.  Once I get those, I will put them up on the website so keep watching for that.  I have updated the Tournament of Champions qualifiers to include the league results I have, Club Championship, Year Long Match Play events, and weekend events already completed.  So that should just about cover 90% of the winners.  There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board outside the locker room.  Just because you qualified does not mean you are automatically entered in the Tournament of Champions event!!  We still need you to sign up on the sheet so we know how many people will be playing and can make the pairings.  Sign up deadline is Wednesday, September 24th! Yes, this is an earlier than normal sign up deadline but we need the extra time to get everything set.  If you cannot make it to the club to sign up, send me or Jerry Vetsch an email and we will get you signed up.  We will not be filling the field with any non-qualified players as we have in the past.  Only those players who won or place 2nd in a Men's Club event or activity (the eligible events are listed on the website) will be "invited".  Good Luck to all participants!

Player of the Year standings (thru Club Championship):
1. Renslow, Curt               31.5 pts
2. Johnson, Warren D        24 pts
3. Doherty, Mel                 21 pts
4. Brannan, Dan                17 pts
5. Anderson, Jim               15 pts
5. Whittaker, Steve            15 pts
7. Torkkola, Rick               13.5 pts
8. Cox, Tim                       13 pts
8. Haley, Terry                   13 pts

These results do not include the Year Long events (which are double point value) and all the league results.  Also, remember that the Tournament of Champions winners also are double point value, so there is still a lot of people in the running to win Player of the Year!

Fall League started on September 3rd and the last night to sign up was September 10th.  We have 14 teams this year in the league.  Format is 9-holes of 2 man best ball using 80% of your men's club handicap (100% if you partner cannot play a week).  I will keep a running total of the best ball net score for your team each week and count 7 of 8 scores.  The winners will receive cash payouts and the winning team will automatically be eligible for next year's Tournament of Champions.

The Fall Banquet will be on Wednesday, October 22nd starting at 7:00 pm. The banquet is FREE to all paid Men's Club members!  At the meeting we will be electing next year's Board of Directors and awarding prints to the winners of the various leagues and major events during the year.  This years print is of the White #2 hole.  Please contact any board member if you are interested in volunteering to become a board member.  We are looking for dedicated people to take over the following positions:  Vice-President, Treasurer, 9-Hole Chair, Senior 50+ chair, Senior 60+ chair, and Weekend Events Chair.  Please make sure you RSVP to Peake's Restaurant by Monday, October 20th so we can get a head count and make sure there is enough food for all the chow hounds.

Upcoming Events:
Tournament of Champions - Saturday, September 27th.  Tee times will start at 10:00 AM with registration opening at 9:00 AM.  There will be a players pool and horse race.  The shootout will follow 18-holes of medal play on the Blue course.

Fall Scramble - Saturday, October 4th. We have changed this format to a pick your own team event where your minimum combined Men's Club handicaps MUST total 50 or higher.  We will be using the 4-tee block system where the A player tees off from the Championship tees, the B player from the regular black men's tees, the C player from the white tees and the D player from the Red tees.

That is about it for now!  There is still time to get out and play in the nice fall weather but don't wait too long!

See you at the course,
Mark Staller
Club Secretary
