Pebble Creek Men's Club Newsletter
October 2009
Hello fellow Men's Club members - well, the men's club season has finally and officially come to an end with last nights Fall Banquet and Awards Ceremony.  For those that missed the free meal, you missed a good time.  A big thanks to all of you who participated in Men's Club leagues, events, and activities during this past season.  We hope you had as good a time as we did and we look forward to seeing you all back again in the spring for another great year!

Men's Club News:
Not much new going on the next few months.  Your new Board of Directors will be meeting on Wednesday, November 4th and appointing the other various board positions for the league, event, and handicap chairs.  Then we will get down to business planning another great schedule of golf events for you in 2010.  We are still looking for someone to take over the Year Long Match Play events next year.  You would be working with Barry Ashmore putting it together and then take it over the following year.  If you are interested, let one of the board members know.

For those who missed the meeting last night, the following people were elected to the 2010 Board of Directors:  President - Mel Doherty; Vice-President - Chris Lund; Secretary - Mark Staller; Treasurer - Curt Renslow.  The remaining board positions will need to be appointed and confirmed by the new board at the next meeting.

Along with the awards given to the club champions, tournament of champions and league winners, we also announced a couple of other honors.  This years Most Improved Player award went to Dave Landreville who showed the most significant improvement in his handicap according to GHIN handicap.  Dave dropped his GHIN handicap from 4.7 down to 0.8!  That is an incredible achievement as it takes some great golfing to lower your handicap that much once you get into single digits!

Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year honors went to the same person this year - Dave Hollander.  Dave had a fantastic first year with the men's club placing in the money in 5 of the 8 weekend events, finishing 3rd in 18 hole league and posting two strong second place finishes in the Club Championship and the Individual Match play tournament.  Congratulations Dave, great job!

Upcoming Event: though this in not an official Men's Club event - the Pro Shop has asked me to let you know they are looking for one more person to fill out a team in this weekends Texas Big Cup tournament.  If you are interested, call the Pro Shop and sign up.

Past Event Results:

Tournament of Champions - September 26th. What a great tournament!  We had some great scoring and a nice fall day to play golf.  Jim Anderson chipped in twice during the shootout to advance to the final hole where his net birdie on Blue #6 was just enough to get him by Ryan Isaacson's par.  Coming in 3rd was Bill Timmer and in 4th place was Scott Holt.  Congratulations Jim!

Fall Scramble - October 3rd.  In our annual pick your own team ABCD scramble, the team of Mel Doherty, Bill Struzyk, Eric Graning, and Rick Torkkola eaked out the honors by one stroke over 3 other teams.  Good playing guys!

Individual Match Play - in our year long individual match play tournament, Lonnie Fluck completed the three-peat by winning the low division bracket for the 3rd year in a row!  In the 2nd flight, Josh Tennie defeated  Ryan Seavert  to take the top honors and in the 3rd flight Jim Hadac knocked off Lyle Herbst to win the title.

Classic Match Play - in the 2 man tournament, Dan Olson and Steve Whittaker defended their title in the 1st flight by defeating Mike McCann and Greg Konerza with some great play.  And in the 2nd flight, the team of Curt Renslow and Kevin LaVoi overpowered Don Holly and Scott Pauly to take the top spot.

That is it for now.  Our next board meeting is Wednesday, November 4th at 6:00 pm.  Location is yet to be determined.  Thanks again to everyone for a great year and the best of luck to all for a healthy and safe travels this winter.
