Pebble Creek Men's Club Newsletter
October 2008
(Oct 27th)  Hello fellow Men's Club Members - well, the end of the golf season is nearly here.  Though the men's club events are done, there is still one more weekend left to get out and play at Pebble Creek.  The last day will be Sunday, November 2nd and that's it.  Regardless of weather after that, the golf course will be closed.  Also, don't forget that if you have shop credit you need to spend that by the end of October.

Men's Club News: After a bit of a rocky start with the weather, things turned out pretty good.  We had to shuffle some events around but we were able to get them all in.  Thanks to everyone for your patience and we are going to be talking about better ways to communicate information to the men's club during the winter Board meetings.

Congratulations to Kyle Brannan, son of our very own Dan and Lynette Brannan, on  passing his Class A PGA professional test and graduating from New Mexico State (he actually graduates in December).  Kyle has been offered an assistant professional position at the prestiguos and private Terradyne Country Club in Wichita, Kansas!  Good job Kyle!!   (now I have a place to go in the spring)  ha!

Congratulations to your new Board of Directors for 2009:
             President - Brian Dingmann
             Vice-President - Mel Doherty
             Secretary - Mark Staller
             Treasurer - Jim Anderson

We are looking for people to fill the remaining board positions and league chairs.  The next board meeting will be on Wednesday, November 5th at 6:30 PM at Peake's.  If you are interested, please come to the meeting or contact a board member.

Past Event Results:

Tournament of Champions - September 27th. Congratulations to Lonnie Fluck for his fine play in both the qualifying round and for holding on in the shootout!  Lonnie's par on Blue #7 solidified his victory.  Good job Lonnie!  Congrats also to Greg Mattson who took 2nd, Tom Wigren coming in 3rd, and Mike McCann who took 4th for their fine play.

Individual Match Play Tournament - congratulations to Lonnie Fluck (1st flight), Dan Brannan (2nd flight), and Kevin LaVoi (3rd flight) who all won their respective flights in the year long individual match play tournament.  Winning a match play tournament is not easy, especially the individual tournament as you don't have a partner to fall back on.  You have to play well all year at the right times in order to pull it off so a big congrats to those winners!

Classic Match Play Tournament - also, let us not forget the two man team match play winners, which is just as tough to win.  Maybe more so, as trying to get 4 guys to decide on a day to get together and play a match is harder than convincing your wife that there really is a law that says you have to watch golf on Master's  Sunday instead of going to the in-laws.  Taking the first place honors were Dan Olson and Steve Whittaker (1st flight) and Dan Brannan and Brian Dingmann (2nd flight), way to go fellas'!

Fall Scramble - October 4th. We had a tie for 1st with scores of 12 under par on a fine day in early October.  The teams of Tony Graning, Eric Graning, Joe Cox, Rick Torkkola and the team of Mark Staller, Dave Mattson, Rick Theisen, Mark Sycks were the victors this year in this pick your own scramble event.

Fall League - also winning Fall League, the Graning boys!  Tony and cousin Eric held on in this tightly contested race for the championship.  Despite horrible weather on the last day (wind, rain, sleet and cold temps), the "Graning boys" (as they shall now be referred as) put up a terrific 3 under best ball score of 33 to close the door on all challengers.  Coming in a tie for second 3 strokes back were Dan Brannan and Doug Zimmerman, and the team of Chris Lund and Greg Mattson.  Good job everyone!

Upcoming Events:

Holiday Party - Saturday, January 17th. More news will follow on this in the coming months.

Thanks again to all of you for a great season of golf.  We hope you enjoyed your participation in the Pebble Creek Men's Club and if you have any recommendations or ideas on how to improve the men's club experience, do not hesitate to contact one of the new board members or better yet, come to a board meeting.  All board meetings are open to members and we love to see you there.  Your input and feeback really are listened to, and we appreciate any comments.  I will routinely bug you over the winter with these monthly newsletters (though you may not get them every month) as information comes out.

Have a great and safe winter everyone!  For those heading south (lucky dogs!), be safe in your travels and golf well!  We will see everyone again in the spring!
