Pebble Creek Men's Club Newsletter
May 2010
(May 10th)  Hello fellow men's club members - well, we started off the spring with some great weather and now reality has hit and we have had to deal with rain, cold and some very strong winds.  Oh well, that is golf in Minnesota!  Always a challenge.

Men's Club News:

The official men's club golf season is now under way with the first weekend event having been played on May 1st and league play having started this past week.  There is still time to get in a league, but you need to do so quickly as league chairmen will be finalizing their leagues this week.  If you have not paid, please do so this week.

Also, the year long match play events are being finalized and the brackets should be posted in the next day or two.  You will have 3 weeks to get your matches in for this first round, so dont' dawdle.  Contact your opponent(s) as soon as possible and get your match scheduled.

Past Event Results:

Spring Kickoff - Colors - May 1st. This is always a great event and we had better weather than most years, despite the strong winds.  Congratulations to the team of Scott Holt, Don Holly, Curt Renslow, and Todd Hanrahan who shot an amazing 3 under par total of 213 to win the first place honors.  That is some great golfing!  A great job of ham-n-egging team play and a great putter toss into the pond on Blue #9 were some of the highlights for this team.  Coming in second with an even par total of 216 was the team of Dave Landreville, Brian Dingmann, Joe Cox, and Tony Graning.  Dave shot a fine round of 71 on his own ball to help his team capture 2nd place.  Coming in 3rd (tie broken via scorecard matchup)  with a score of 218 was the team of Warren D Johnson, Gary Obele, Eric Graning, and John Dinsmore.  Great playing everyone!

Upcoming Events:

Wednesday, May 12th - Demo Day.  The Pro Shop will have a number of golf club manufacturers on hand Wednesday.  PING, Callaway and Nike will all be in attendance. Come and try the latest and greatest equipment from the leading manufacturers. They will be on the range from 3pm to 7pm.

Saturday, May 22nd - High Ball Low Ball event. This will be a morning start.  Players will sign up in two man (pick your own partner) teams.  The event committee will then pair two man teams into four man teams to balance team handicaps.  This is a 4-person team event using the team's net low ball added to its net high ball. To tighten the playing field, the team’s net high ball can never exceed a net double par.  Scorekeeper for the team will record the gross score for each player, using the bottom line on the score card to reflect the two ball total of the team’s net low ball and net high ball.  There is a sign up sheet posted on the bulletin board.  Sign Up Deadline is Wednesday, May 19th by 9:00 PM.

Sunday, May 30th - Pebble Creek Classic. This is a Pro Shop run event and will be a 2 man best ball format.  This event is open to the public and players must have a USGA handicap (or equivalent).  See the flyers posted at the golf course or contact the Pro Shop if you are interested.

Saturday, June 12th - Easy as 1-2-3.  This will be a morning start.  Teams will be randomly drawn by handicap to include an A, B, C, and D player.  On each hole, the team will count:  one net ball on all Par 3’s, two net balls on all Par 4’s, and three net balls on all Par 5’s.  Sign up deadline is Wednesday, June 9th by 9:00 PM.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, we would like to welcome everyone back for an exciting golf season at Pebble Creek.  The course is in fantastic shape, so get out and play.  A big welcome to all the new members this year.  If you are a new member, one of the best ways to meet some men's club members is to participate in a weekend event.  Our weekend events are geared mostly for fun (with a little competion on the side to make it interesting).  We try to come up with formats that will appeal to the majority of the members, whether they have a low handicap or a high handicap, we want everyone to have some fun playing golf and not worry so much about what score they shot.   That is why most of our events are "team events" where a bad score does not necessarily mean you are out of it.  Case in point - the Spring Kickoff we just had:  the winning team had a player who shot 100 and another player who 3 putted from 6 inches (and then tossed his putter into the pond), yet they still won!  So, even if you had a bad day, you can always find something to laugh about.  Things are tough enough out there right now for everyone with money, work, family problems all taking a piece of you each day.  So, playing golf should be as stress free and enjoyable as possible.  Try and remember that as you play with other guys in leagues and events.  Let's have some fun out there!

See you at the course,
