Pebble Creek Men's Club Newsletter
May 2008
(May 19, 2008)  Hello fellow Men's Club members - is it spring yet?!!  The calendar says so but you would not know it by the weather!  We have already had one weekend event cancelled (and rescheduled) due to snow and another played in a monsoon!  Well, it finally looks like we may have some good weather coming up this weekend, so take advantage of it while you can!

Men's Club News:
     The
Spring Kickoff event that was snowed out at the end of April has been rescheduled for Sunday, July 18th.  It will now simply be called Individual Low Gross/Low Net event (the same format as Spring Kickoff).  Mark your calendars accordingly.

No-Show Policy - just a reminder to everyone to read your handbook on page 8 for the Men's Club No-Show policy for events.  The deadline to cancel out of an event is by noon the day before the event.  Any cancellation after that counts as a no-show and you will be fined $10 and a second offense will eliminate you from any further events for the season (including Club Championship).  Emergency situations are the exception and will be handled on a case-by-case basis.  Remember, when you no-show for a team event you are penalizing your teammates too, so please make every effort to attend if you signed up.
The Board of Directors has decided to start an
Adopt-a-Hole program for all men's club members and we will need everyone's assistance in carrying this out.  All we are asking is that you take a personal interest in your assigned hole and make a special effort to do a little more than usual.  That means while you are waiting to tee off you take an moment to pick up any trash laying around, check and make sure the ball washer has water in it, see if any garbage cans are overflowing (and notify the Pro Shop if they are).  While out in the fairway waiting to hit your approach to the green, take a moment to rake any sand traps in the fairway that need raking, put rakes in the bunkers, fill in any divots with sand, if there are any range balls lying around toss them back to the range, etc.  And when you get on the green and waiting for your partners to putt, fix some extra ball marks, rake bunkers, put rakes in the bunker, etc.  You get the idea.  We do not want you to slow down play by fixing 100 ball marks on the green or filling in every little hole in the fairway though.  Use your common sense and do what you can while you are waiting and have the time.  With the current state of our economy and the tight maintenance budget, any help we can give the maintenance staff will go a long way into keeping Pebble Creek in the condition we all want it to be.  Unfortunately, we just do not have the numbers to take care of all three nine hole courses.  Therefore, we are going to adopt holes on the red and white courses and ask you to do what you can on the Blue nine when you are playing there.  The hole assignments were done alphabetically by the first letter of your last name.  Please remember your "adopted hole" and take a few spare moments to do what you can each time you are playing.  Here are the hole assignments:

If your last name starts with:
               Your Adopted Hole is:
             A                                                               1 Red

Past Men's Club Events:

Orange Ball - Saturday, May 10th. Congrats to the team of Lonnie Fluck, Gary Obele, Don Holly and Mike Taylor for not only beating the field but the wet weather and winning the event.  Coming in second was the team of Mike McCann, Mel Doherty, Tim Cox, and Paul Raetz.  Good playing, guys!

Upcoming Events:

Peppers - Saturday (AM), May 24th.  Yes, we realize we scheduled this event on Memorial Day weekend but for those who will be around, why not take advantage of the great weather predicted and come out and play in one of the best events on our schedule!  Peppers is a 2-man team event.  Teams will be randomly drawn by handicap and you will use the combination of both or your nets scores to determine your team score for each hole.  See the handbook or the website for the format details.

Easy as 1-2-3 - Saturday, June 14th. This is a 4-man team competition where teams are randomly drawn by handicap to include an A, B, C, and D player.  On each hole, the team will count: one net ball on all Par 3's; two net balls on all Par 4's; and three net balls on all Par 5's.

Star Cor Open (formerly called Guest Day) - Wednesday, June 18th. This is our old Guest Day, a great chance to bring out your buddies to play a 27-hole event and win some big money.  The format will be the same as past year's.  More details will be out shortly.  Watch for flyers posted in the locker room, bathrooms, and on the bulletin board.  We are looking at a reduced price this year - down from $95 to $75 a person!!

That's about it.  Leagues are fully underway and those of you playing in the Classic and Individual Match play tournaments should be working hard at getting your first round matches in.  Deadlines for those matches is June 1st!  So, don't dawdle - get hopping!!  The next Men's Club Board Meeting is Monday, June 2nd at 6:30 PM at Peake's Restaurant in the bar area.  ALL Men's Club members are welcome and encouraged to attend.  Believe it or not, we really do like to hear what you have to say and we do listen to all the feedback we get.  As you can imagine, trying to keep over 150 members happy is not an easy job so have a little pitty on us poor smucks who "volunteered" to be Board Members now and then (free booze eases our sorrows considerably  ha! - just kidding :)

See you at the course - play well and have a great Memorial weekend!!  (And don't forget to say a little prayer for our Armed Forces, past and present, who put it on the line everyday for us).
