Pebble Creek Men's Club Newsletter
June 2008
Hello fellow Men's Club members - well, what do you know, summer has finally arrived!  What a great week of weather we have had, especially this past Wednesday!

Men's Club News:
Speaking of this past Wednesday, if you did not play in the Guest Day, you really missed out.  Not only was the weather great, but Dave Simeon and the maintenance staff had the course in fantastic shape!  We heard nothing but fabulous comments from the guests about the course and the playing conditions - great job Dave and staff!  We would be remiss also if we did not give a big thank you to Jerry Vetsch and Mike Doering for all their hard work organizing the Guest Day tournament.  Jerry took over organizing the tournament on very short notice (he only had about a month to get it all together) and did a great job!  Mike, who was supposed to play in the tournament, volunteered to handle registration and running the horse race, players pool and skins games.  He also ended up having to handle all the scoring and results pretty much on his own (which is a lot of work for one guy to do, so results will take a day or two to be posted).  Everyone owes Jerry and Mike a big round of thanks, tell them so when you see them next!  Despite the success of the tournament, we know there can be improvements made and we would like to hear back from you with your feedback or recommendations.  Just email me or any of the board members while it is still fresh in your minds.
In other news...the Spring Kickoff event from April, that was postponed due to weather and moved to July 20th (and now called Individual Low Gross/Low Net event), will be getting moved again!  It just is not our year it seems.  We only recently found out that our opponents in the next round of 24 man team matches cannot play on the originally scheduled date and now have (with MPGA and our approval), rescheduled the first round match for Sunday, July 20th.  So, we will be moving the Individual Low Gross/Low Net event to another date (yet to be determined).  I will let you know after the next board meeting when I find out the new date.  And speaking of 24 man team, the sign up sheet is on the bulletin board so get your name on it!  We need our best players if we are going to come back and take the consolation title.  We will be going to play Prestwick in the July match.

Past Event Results: We finally have been able to get a few events in the books, thanks to the weather finally cooperating.

Peppers - June 7th. Congratulations to the team of Jim Anderson and Mel Doherty for prevailing with a combined score of 690.  Coming in second was Paul Raetz and Curt Renslow with a score of 722 and third was Barry Ashmore and Don Holly with a score of 730.  Nice playing guys!

Easy as 1-2-3 - June 14th. Lyle Herbst, Dave Simeon, Curt Renslow, and Jim Anderson blew away the field and won this fun event with a score of 28 under.  Despite playing against each other in a Classic match, this group had enough "love" going around to put up a great team score to take the honors.  Coming in second was the team of Dan Brannan, Warren D Johnson, Noel Martin and Brian Dingmann with a score of 22 under.

Men's Club Guest Day - June 18th. While I don't have the official results yet (they should be posted on the website shortly), I do know that our own Gary Obele and his multiple teams of ringers (just kidding) won most of the money this year, primarily based on some great play by Gary, who shot even par over 27 holes!  That is some great playing for an old fart like Gary!!  Well done old man  :)

Upcoming Events:

Chicago Points - Wednesday, June 25th.  This event is individual stroke play using your full handicap.  Scoring as follows:  Net Eagle - 6 pts., Net Birdie - 4 pts., Net Par - 2 pts., and Net Bogey or higher - 0 pts.  The person with the most points wins.  There will be separate divisions based on handicap and number of players.

2-Man 6-6-6 Combination - Saturday (AM), July 12th. This is another great 2-man event with the team playing 6 holes of scramble, 6 holes alternate shot, and 6 holes of best ball.  Teams will be drawn randomly.

2-Man Best Ball - Wednesday, August 6th. Yes, you read this right, this will be another Wednesday event!  And you will be able to pick your own partner.  80% handicaps will be used.

Club Championship - Saturday/Sunday, August 9th-10th.  This is the biggie!  The Men's Club Championship played over two days.  Sign up sheets will be posted next month on the bulletin board.  Check out your handbook for details on the format.

As I mentioned briefly above, we have had a difficult year when it comes to events.  First with the weather being so poor and secondly with our scheduling problems.  Hopefully, both have been resolved.  We will try and do a better job of getting the word out to all of you of what is coming up and posting the results a little quicker for those interested.  These newsletters, reminder emails, and the website are our best ways to communicate with you, the Men's Club members.  So, keep an eye out for more news and check the website often at www.pcmensclub.com.
We look forward to hearing from you on any issues, comments, problems, or ideas you may have in improving your Men's Club experience.  Our next Board Meeting is Monday, July 7th at 6:30 PM at Peake's restaurant (in the bar area, cause we need to drink to make it through those meetings)!  So if you have something to say or just want to know all the things we have to deal with, stop by for a few minutes and listen.  I promise you it will be an eye opener!  We love to have our members take an interest in their Men's Club by participating in our Board meetings.  We hope to see you there!

That is about it for now.
See you at the course,
Mark Staller
Club Secretary
