| (July 23rd) Hello fellow Men's Club members - the summer is just flying by and before you know it the golf season will be over and we will be huddled in the house counting the days when we can get back out on the links (except for those of you lucky enough to head south for the winter). The dog days of summer are just around the corner, so don't waste any time, get in those rounds of golf while you can. August will be a busier month for us as we have two weekend events scheduled and it will be the time for you to tune up for the Club Championship in September.
Men's Club News: The first half of league play is completed and for those leagues that pay out for each half, you should be seeing the results on the bulletin board and cash waiting for you in the Pro Shop. If not, please contact the appropriate league chair for more information. Your 16 Man and 8 Man MPGA match play teams are having great years! This is a first for us. The senior team has always done well (as we are predominatly an "older" club) but our 16 man team has never done so well, thanks to some new "young guns" this year. We are undefeated so far and guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. Good luck to both teams as the season winds down!! It is time again to start thinking about who you would like to serve on your board of directors for next year. We need to elect a new Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer again this year at our Fall Banquet in October. Start thinking about who you want to lead your Men's Club into the next year. Also, anyone interested in serving in those positions or if you would like to run one of the leagues or events, we need volunteers. Let any Board Member know or come to one of the next few meetings. Player of the Year update. For those of you who are new to the Men's Club, Player of the Year points are earned for each of the weekend events, leagues, Club Championship and Tournament of Champions, and the year long events. Points are given for top finishers in each event. So far, here are the standings (current thru July 19th): Name Points 1. Dave Hollander 15.5 2. Jim Hadac 14.5 3. Dave Landreville 10 4. Mel Doherty 9 5. Todd Hanrahan 8.5 6. Lyle Herbst 8 6. Ted Crowe 8 6. Ryan Isaacson 8 9. Brian Dingmann 7.5 There are still lots of points to earn. Classic and Individual Match play tournament, Club Championship, and Tournament of Champions carry double point value (as they are considered our "major tournaments"). So there are a lot of people who can still take the Player of the Year honors. But, you have to enter events to win! Past Event Results: Criers and Whiners - June 27th. This was a new event we tried out this year with an appropriate name for many of us who like to complain about hitting poor shots and wishing we could replay them. Jim Hadac was the big "whiner" taking 1st place with a net score of 64 followed by the "little" criers and whiners in Dave Hollander with a 68 and Mel Doherty, Steve Engelby, and Rick Torkkola all tied for 3rd with net 69's. Good playing 'fellas! 2-Man 6-6-6 combination - July 18th. This was a fun event, just for the fact that you get to play 3 different formats in one event and the team that gets through the alternate shot the best usually has a pretty good chance of winning (which was not the case for my team, yuck!). This year, that was Brian Dingmann and Curt Renslow who squeaked out a victory with a score of 69. Coming in hot on their heels was the team of Ted Crowe and Ryan Isaacson with a 70 and Tim Cox and Dave Hollander with a 71. Congrats to all! Upcoming Events: One-Two Best Ball - Saturday (AM), August 15th. A little twist on your standard 2 man best ball format, this will be a pick your own partner event with 100% handicap being used. Count one net best ball on the odd numbered holes and two net best balls on the even numbered holes. 4 Club Tournament - Saturday (AM), August 29th. Another new event on the schedule and one we thought we would try out this year. Some people don't like this kind of event and others enjoy the challenge. This will be an individual stroke play event using 100% handicaps. Each player can select up to 4 clubs to play the 18-hole event. Your putter counts as a club. Club Championship - Saturday/Sunday - September 12th-13th. This is the big one! Sign up sheets will be posted on the Men’s Club bulletin board for the Club Championship. The format is individual stroke play over two days beginning Saturday, September 12th and concluding on Sunday, September 13th. This flight will be gross score and will be played from the Championship tees. The championship will be played over 45 holes with 18 holes being played on Saturday and 27 holes played on Sunday.
