| (Dec 19th) Happy Holidays everyone! I sure hope everyone is enjoying the snow and cold. Have you enjoyed "skating" to work this past week? I never thought I would need to buy ice skates for my car just to get down the road. Oh well, just four more months of this %$&t and we will be on the golf course again! Start the countdown...
Men's Club News: Just a reminder to everyone that Saturday, January 17th is our big Holiday Party! The Men's and Women's Club jointly sponsor this annual little get-together that is open to your spouses and friends. Cocktail hour begins at 6:00 PM at Peake's at Pebble Creek Restaurant. There will be a sit down dinner starting around 7:00 PM. Following dinner, Tom Keller will be providing entertainment in the bar area. If you plan on attending, please RSVP with your dinner choices to Peake's by January 13th. You can email them at rpeake@peakehospitality.com The menu choices are: 1. Filet mignon or NY strip, dinner salad, roll, baby red potatoes, and veggie - $17.00 2. Broiled Walleye dinner with dinner salad, roll, baby red potatoes, and veggie - $17.00 3. Chicken Kiev with wild rice and light alfredo - $13.00 Hope to see everyone there. One other thing... we are still looking for someone to organize and run the Wednesday night Senior League. This league will be for any men's club member 50 and older. All players will play from the back tees (regular men's club tees) this year. The format will be up to the league chairmen. If you are interested, please contact Brian Dingmann (or let me know). Men's Club changes for 2009: We have been steadily working on a number of issues for this upcoming golf season and making some changes that will be explained in more detail as the winter goes along. One of the more significant changes is that the Board of Directors, (based on much discussion and research), voted unanimously to go back to only one set of tees for all league and event play this year. Therefore, all Men's Club leagues, weekend events, and Classic and Individual Match Play tournaments will be played from the back tees (regular men's club tees). There will no longer be a need to adjust strokes based on different tees. The Board also decided, though not unanimously, to stay with the Men's Club handicap but make some changes to how your handicap is determined in order to get more turnover. Instead of using your low 10 of your most recent 20 scores (like USGA and our old formula does), we will now take your low 7 of your last 14 scores and figure your handicap potential. One of the biggest complaints we hear from men's club members is that "My handicap never changes". Well, part of that may just be that you do not play in enough Men's Club activities, especially for those members who only play 9 holes once a week and rarely play in a weekend event, in which case it would take considerable time to get in enough 18 hole scores to turnover your handicap. So, we hope this adjustment will take care of that for some of you. There will not be a Super Senior or Senior 60+ league this year, at least there will not be one run by the Men's Club. Bill Nelson and Hal Lofgreen will be organizing a Senior 60+ league for anyone interested. This league is open to the public and you do not need to be a Men's Club member to join. You will need to have a USGA handicap however. Bill and Hal will be announcing the format and rules in the future. We encourage those eligible to participate if they wish, but because it will not strictly follow the USGA Rules of Golf, the Men's Club will not be able to be affiliated with it (our by-laws preclude it). This will be more of a social league, though there will be a competitive format and cash payout. We have completely revamped the weekend event schedule. We left some of the more popular events in and added some new ones. We have tried to come up with events that will make it more enjoyable for people to play in. With that in mind, many of the events (though not all) will be pick your own partner. That way you will at least be able to play with one of your buddies. You may still be paired with another twosome though to make up your 4-man team, but that's the way it goes. We have also tried to come up with some new and interesting formats which we have not tried before. So, come on out and see how you like them and let us know. More information will be posted on our web site as details become final. Once the Board approves the handbook, I will update the web site with the league and event information. That is about all for now. Our next Board Meeting will be on Wednesday, January 14th at 6:00 PM at Peake's. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we wish you a happy and healthy Holiday season and safe travels wherever you go!! Mark Staller Club Secretary |
