| (April 16th) Hello fellow Men's Club Members - well, Spring is finally here and the golfing season has begun! Not that many of you have noticed judging by the number of people at the golf course the last two times I was out there. Not that I am complaining, it has been nice to play a round in 3 hours :)
Men's Club News: We had our Annual Spring Banquet last night. A pretty disappointing turnout with 28 members. What, did you not like the sunny 70 degree weather? Or was it because you didn't want to see me? :( pout Seriously though, the board and I are at a loss to explain the poor turnout for our Spring Banquets the last two years. We used to get 60 or 70 members and now we are lucky to get 30. I would really appreciate, for those of you who did not come, if you would take a second after reading this newsletter and click the "Reply" button and send me a brief email telling me why. Don't "reply to all" as not everyone needs to see what you have to say. Just send it to me and help me understand what we need to do to make Spring Banquets something you want to attend in the future. We all understand if you had to work or had family committments or if you are still down south, that is ok. But I would really like to know from the rest of you what we can do to get you to come out. Is the meal cost too much? Or is there some other reason? We are required by our by-laws to hold two general membership meetings a year: one in the spring and one in the fall and that is what these banquets are for. It is the time that your Board of Directors lets you know what they have been working on all winter and what changes are in store for the new golf season. Sometimes that requires vote by the general membership (that is YOU) and we need a majority in attendance for the vote to be valid. Anyway, enough of me ragging on you. It's spring and golf season is here!! Upcoming Events: New Member Open and Orientation - Saturday, April 25th. For those new members to the Men's Club, especially those of you who have never played in a golf league, this is your opportunity to come out and get your questions answered. This event is open to all new members from 2008 and for this year in 2009. There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board. PLEASE sign up by Wednesday, April 22nd so we know how many people to expect. There will be a brief orientation and question/answer session downstairs in the Tee Box (snack bar) at 10:30 AM. We will then give you a tour of the facilities, show you how and where to enter your scores in the GHIN computer, and give you time to warm up on the range or putting green. We will start golfing at Noon. This will just be a casual round for you to get a score in for handicap purposes and get a good look at the course with your fellow Men's Club members. Spring Kickoff - Saturday, May 2nd. This will be a Noon start also, just in case we have some cool weather in the morning (i.e. frost delay). There is a new format to this year's Spring Kickoff. It is called Colors and is similar to the Orange Ball event we have had in previous years. The difference in Colors format is that you will not know who is the "chosen" player until AFTER you complete the hole. Teams will be made up of 4 players randomly drawn and each person will be assigned a "color". You will count the best 3 net scores out of 4 on each hole. After you finish each hole, look at the flag stick and you will see a piece of colored tape, that color will designate the player's score that MUST be used. Makes things a little more interesting, not knowing who's score has to be used until you finish the hole. hehehehe....aren't we little devils! League Play Begins - Wednesday, May 6th. That's right! Get signed up for leagues now before they fill up. The whole shootin' match starts on May 6th! Classic and Individual Match Play begins - Wednesday, May 6th. Also, play begins for the year long Classic and Individual Match play tournaments on May 6th. See the bulletin board in the upcoming weeks for the tournament bracket. That is all for now. The weather has been great the last few days and the course came through the winter in fantastic shape. Get out and play! Who knows when the monsoons will hit and the cold will come back (it happened last year) so take advantage now while you can. See you at the course, Mark Staller Club Secretary |
